Many thanks to J.S Brown and Company, a custom remodeling company in Columbus, Ohio for sharing this transitional setting kitchen featuring our Tender by Faber. According to J.S Brown's marketing director Amber Durant, "This Kitchen remodel was part of a larger interior renovation to update a 1980's era contemporary-style home."

The stainless appliances matched in this kitchen with dark woods, neutral counter tops and flooring allows for the appliances to jump out and create a design statement. The subtle curves of the Tender make the hood a focal point in the kitchen and lend to the modern feel of the kitchen while still lending traditional elements.

The Tender hood with 600 cfm, 3 speed electronic blue LED backlit controls, halogen lights, auto shut off and intensive speed offers the power you need and the silence you seek. Affordable, attractive and you can buy with confidence knowing a 60 year old ventilation pioneer is behind the product. For more information visit faberonline.com

Designer Spotlight: Orizzonte hood by De Waal Developments Ltd.

As we turn the calendar to October and the fall season at Faber we are focusing on a designer / developer who has chosen one of the many fashion forward Faber hoods ro add value to their kitchen, the Orizzonte. The McKernan home in Edmonton, Alberta Canada was designed and developed by De Waal Developments Ltd. This developer believes in green home building with high efficiency appliances and tight energy efficient homes. In regards to the kitchen design, this open floor plan kitchen mixes modern lighting and appliances with classic cabinetry, hard wood flooring and subway tiles. The clean lines of the Orizzonte matches well with the white clean cabinets and the smooth top cook top and oven which all contribute the light and airy feel of the kitchen design. The track lighting in the ceiling highlights the cooking area and puts the focus on the Faber Orizzonte.

Koen de Waal, C.E.T. , President of De Waal Developments Ltd. had this to say about why they chose the Faber for their project:

"We chose our Faber hood fan based on the functional and sleek design. We are impressed by both and the design aesthetic of Faber."

The Orizzonte is a part of the Image collection by Faber and is an excellent value for this fully featured designer hood. Some of the many features of the hood are as follows:

• A powerful 600 cfm fan with a pro motor with metal impellers and metal motor housing
• Perimetric stainless steel front panels that hide the grease filters, reduce air noise and increase efficiency
• 2 level halogen lights
• 4 speed LED electronic read out control with a 10 minute intensive speed and 30 minute auto shut off timer
• Can be converted to ductless
• 6 and 8" round make up air dampers available
• A grease filter and charcoal filter change / wash reminder

The Magnum hood meets a modern BBAUER design

The Magnum hood by Faber is showcased in this fabulous designer kitchen in New York by Bren Bauer Ferdinand of BBAUER Ventures. You can get the designers perspective on the materials and the other appliances used by visiting her blog FORTUNATA Live Beautifully.

Here is a quote from the designer about the Faber Magnum in her kitchen setting, "I chose this hood essentially because it worked with the modern, organic elements of this kitchen and liked that it was not overly modern, was a great hood for a home chef, and worked well with the Miele cooktop and base oven. The price was right too." - Bren Bauer Ferdinand

We can't thank Bren Bauer Ferdinand enough for her comments, and praise for Faber! We would completely agree that the modern style of the kitchen and all the style elements in the designer kitchen lend to the use of this particular hood. Even the shape of the rectangular back splash tiles matches the shape of the Magnum with a rectangular front. The 3 halogen lights of the hood call attention to the glossy Heath Ceramics, Olive tiles.

The Pro style cooktop and oven match up very well with the hoods modern pro styling. Not to mention the potential BTU output of the cooktop will be handled well by the 600 cfm Pro motor in this model. As the designer states, the hood is not "overly modern". Given the pro hood heritage of this Magnum hood, it is a hybrid between the traditional big box pro rangehood and a curvy euro-styled hood. The size of the Magnum is also perfect for this kitchen. At 10 inches tall, the proportions are just right between the cabinets and amount of tile showing. A shorter hood would seem squeezed and a taller hood would be massive. Finally, in all the years of recirculating applications we've seen, this is a very clever way to put air back in the kitchen. The attractive metal return grate above the hood fits in with the modern feel of the kitchen and works functionally to bring filtered air into the kitchen.

Dama Classic Canopy Rangehood by Faber

The Dama range hood from Faber is a classic designer canopy hood with simple and elegant style. The two pictures shown in this posting, demonstrates how a classic designer hood can add so much to this traditional large scale open kitchen.

The clean, light colored traditional cabinets, the light tiles on the floor and the brick work behind the range hood, all match up well with the stainless appliances in this kitchen. The stainless appliances stand out and complement the cabinetry, flooring, island and walls.

The front nose of the Dama hood also perfectly matches the nose of the cooking appliance which is squared off with sharp edges. The arch way above the cooking and range hood also draw your attention towards the hood and stove. Finally the work surfaces and work flow in this kitchen appear very fluid and efficient. Despite the distance between the sink and stove, the center island is big enough that all prep work can be done there. For more information visit our website, faberonline.com

2010 Trends in Kitchens - How Rangehoods can help.

As the new year and new decade begins and the trends for the new year in kitchen design are discussed, it is a good time to talk rangehood design. I will be referencing the NKBA trends article and Susan Serra's article specifically and how rangehoods are applied to their 2010 design trends.

The NKBA mentions white cabinets and traditional styling as a continuing trend. With so many traditional rangehood styles and the ability to build in / integrate a rangehood, there are a lot of ventilation options that can easily accommodate this style trend.

While discussing so many ventilation options to match up with traditional styling, you can also integrate your own personal style into the kitchen while still being "traditional" in style. Susan Serra mentions the trend of "tapping into one’s inner creativity, finding one’s personal expression." With so many rangehood styles: your personal tastes, style & interpretations can all be embraced. By using a built-in / insert rangehood, you can create a custom wood hood in your kitchen design that shows your own style and yet can still be functional because of the high quality rangehood inside. All while being traditional...

Susan Serra mentions chef's kitchens as a 2010 kitchen trend. A chef's kitchen with typically high end / higher heat cooking and usually wider appliances (36", 48" +) all requires higher cfm's (cubic feet per minute of air movement) to match the kind of BTU, grease, odor, steam, smoke output that is possible with these professional appliances. Additionally, a higher BTU output range also would benefit from a rangehood with plenty of capture area under the hood. Meaning the more semi-enclosed area below the grease filters, the more space that contaminants can "hang out" in before being sent thru the rangehood grease filters.

(There is at least 6 inches of material below the filters in this hood to capture contaminants)

Synthesis rangehood by Faber: a traditional canopy hood with style and flair

The Synthesis rangehood as seen in this modern and stylish New York condo project is the perfect addition to this kitchens overall appearance. Without the perfect rangehood focal point in this kitchen, for example if a cabinet was used above the stove instead, this kitchens overall appearance would be much less dramatic. Additionally, stainless steel is used on multiple surfaces including the appliances, drawer handles, accessories on the counter, the sink and the sides of the glass cabinetry. Therefore the stainless steel Synthesis matches these surfaces in the kitchen. With a traditional / pro style range like the Viking, the Synthesis matches up perfectly with the front nose of the range which is also flat like the front of the Faber hood. The edging of the Synthesis with pointed angles also picks up on the edging of the Viking product. With 500 cfm and high quality mesh grease filters, this rangehood can handle the cooking by-products that even the most demanding chef will produce in this kitchen. Kitchen renovation (before and after) with Faber

These before and after photos are from a recent Faber rangehood installation in a traditionally styled New England kitchen. The Faber Agio replaced a basic, inexpensive, older recirculating rangehood installed dating back to when this townhome was first built. By installing the Agio by Faber into this kitchen, the look of the kitchen was instantly updated. Not only is the Agio matching the black range with a black glass front, but the Agio is a sleek and elegant hood, compared to the previous hood in the kitchen. With high quality dishwasher safe mesh grease filters and charcoal filters, the Faber hood will also provide better ventilation than the previous hood. When not in use the Agio can be pushed back in, becoming flush with the side cabinets (as seen in the photo), and when you need to turn on the hood, pull the visor out and the lighting comes on and the hood operates at the previously set speed. Just as with the previous rangehood, the upper cabinets are still empty, so they can be used for storage etc.

Lastly, since Faber makes a green product with 100% recyclable packaging and 95% product recycling, this customer can feel good about helping the environment. Also, the Agio is so energy efficient, that for $1 per year in electrical costs, the hood can be run for 30 minutes a day, everyday for a year! Now that's energy efficient!

Tratto - glass and stainless beauty

The Tratto rangehood by Faber is a stunning hood that matches up well with a lot of cooking surfaces and room designs. For instance in this kitchen picture (courtesy of Euro-line Appliances) you see a traditional kitchen with dark counter tops and a gas cooktop, and neutral backsplash tiles. The Tratto which combines glass and stainless steel offers a "light" look in the kitchen because of the curved glass canopy section. As opposed to much larger canopy hoods on the market, the Tratto will still be the center of attention but yet won't detract too much from the wonderful kitchen design because it is a thin unobtrusive canopy. With a powerful 600 cfm pro motor, halogen lights and baffle style filters, the Tratto will perform very well over most cooking surfaces including pro gas cooktops/stoves - as seen in this photo. For more information visit the Tratto page on our website.

Synthesis rangehood - traditional and contemporary

The Synthesis rangehood by Faber is a traditional canopy style rangehood that features a 500 cfm motor. It is available in 30 or 36 inches widths and in black or white or stainless finishes. The hood has simple angles and a flat front nose that matches up well with a lot of different cooking brands. The Synthesis is shown in this picture over a DCS range which has a bull nose front and matches up well with this hood. Because of the simple lines on this hood, a contemporary kitchen could also match up very well with this hood style.

With 19.5 inches in depth, the hood covers most of a pro surface front to back. As with any of Faber's rangehoods, we recommend that hoods be hung at least 30 inches over a pro gas stove like the one in this photo. For more information visit the Synthesis page on our website.
