Tratto glass hood in a modern kitchen setting

Photo Credit: Scott Ross Timberhaven Homes
Photo Credit: Scott Ross Timberhaven Homes
Today the design blog focuses on another Iron Wood Cabinet Company submission via Jason Syberg. Jason has this to say about his cabinetry, design statement and the reason for using the Faber Tratto hood:

"I designed and built these cabinets for Scott Ross owner of Timberhaven Homes in Kelowna BC. Scott builds some of the most beautiful homes I've seen. I had done a number of cabinet packages for Scott, so I was honoured when he asked me to do his personal home. The house is situated in Vinyeard Estates near Mission Hill Winery overlooking Okanagan Lake and acres of vineyards! We used rift cut white oak with a dark walnut stain complimented with white quartz countertop, and glass and metal details. The kitchen was finished off with high quality appliances such as Faber's Tratto glass and stainless range hood to create a modern, timeless look that will always be in style."

The Tratto hood blends in well into this well crafted kitchen. The glass shelving, white countertops and white tiles on the backsplash all compliment the minimal design of the Tratto. With 600 cfm's, stainless baffle filters, 2 level halogen lighting and electronic LED controls, the modern kitchen is enhanced by the hoods modern amenities.  Thank you once again to Jason at Iron Wood Cabinet Company and to Scott Ross of  Timberhaven Homes for sharing!

Modern with a Classical Twist featuring the Maestrale by Faber

Photo Credit: Lisa Ross - Studio Lisa Ross

Thank you to Joan Enger at J. Patryce Design , a New Jersey based Interior decoration firm for sharing this wonderful modern space featuring our Faber Maestrale hood above a Wolf range.

Joan describes her design and vision below:

"The kitchen was created in a modern, clean fashion with a twist of classical.  Instead of going with a traditional and expected shaker panel, we decided on a flat panel with a grooved detail to mimic the shaker style in an unexpected way.  The base cabinetry was done in a custom cerused oak finish, while the upper cabinets were finished in a matte lacquer.  The appliances were mostly concealed within integrated cabinetry panels, with the exception of the range and hood - allowing them to be the focal point of the kitchen.  The Maestrale was a perfect fit with its clean lines and superior function.

The clients were extremely happy!" - Joan Enger, J. Patryce Design

This is a great example of the "chameleon" hood Maestrale. Because this is a traditional Pro style hood, it fits into a traditional kitchen style. But looking at this example above, the Maestrale also works in a modern setting as well because of the clean lines and stylish curves on the nose. With 600 or 1200 cfm's, halogen lights, 3 speed control and the optional top or direct rear venting, the Maestrale provides an amazing value! With prices starting at a little over $1,000 USD, this professional hood that is 18" tall and 25" deep coming in 30 - 48" widths to match up with any pro-style range at a fraction of the price of the "named" range hoods. This means with no logo on the front of the hood, the Maestrale, again the "chameleon" hood, can blend with the branded range below and appears to be the same brand as the range but with a price tag in some cases $1,000 less!

Thanks again to Joan Enger at J. Patryce Design and Photo Credit: Lisa Ross - Studio Lisa Ross

Classica hood in a Transitional New England Kitchen

Todays beautiful kitchen featuring our Faber Classica hood comes courtesy of Nathan J. Reynolds of Insperiors, a Interior Design firm in Rhode Island who helps clients create their dream spaces in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The kitchen design elements, vision and how the Classica fits are perfectly described by Nathan:

"The Classica stainless wall hood offers a high-end look to our North Dartmouth, Massachusetts kitchen design. The chimney style range hood provided traditional design elements, solid performance and an overall great look above the Frigidaire gas slide-in range.

The marble stone tile behind the hood frames the look and creates a strong focal point in the kitchen—accentuating the high ceiling height and beautiful crown molding atop the rich cherry custom wall cabinets. The tiled backsplash takes this kitchen from plain to lovely and layered.

The Classica stainless wall hood is minimalist and functional. I love to include Faber hoods whenever possible in my kitchen designs—as they look awesome and function well. They really do vent better than any other system out there. Plus, they don’t break the bank!" - Nathan J. Reynolds, Insperiors

This kitchen really does accentuate the best qualities of the Italian styled Classica, the hood is a traditional shaped chimney style model but yet has modern design elements including the simple lines to fit into a transitional kitchen or a traditional one. With 600 cfm, dishwasher safe grease filters, a 3 speed LED electronic control and halogen lighting, the Classica has all the features and functionality you need in a decorative kitchen range hood.

Visit Nathan's website for more information and to see his other Inspired Interiors and visit the Faber website for more information on the Classica and other models.

Stilo Wall hood in a stunning Canadian lakeside house

Many thanks to designer and cabinet fabricator Jason Syberg of Iron Wood Cabinet Company who used our Stilo wall hood in this beautiful lakeside kitchen located in Peachland, BC Canada, in the Okanagan lake region.

Jason had this to say about his kitchen design and how the Stilo wall hood fit:

"I designed and built this cabinet package for my own house. I wanted to use natural elements, wood, glass, and metal and have them showcased against a white backdrop. I combined quarter sawn walnut, aluminum and frosted glass doors, paint grade millwork, white quartz countertops, and stainless steel appliances including a Faber Stilo hood fan to create a clean modern look that complemented the amazing lake view this property had."

The Stilo because of it's sleek Italian design has always blended well in a contemporary setting. The hood compliments the entire kitchen and the clean lines of the hood match up with the horizontal lines of the cabinetry. And if Jason, a kitchen professional used our hood in his OWN HOME, that means he trusts Faber to be used by his clients! For more information see our website. Take a look at the Iron Wood Cabinet Company portfolio for more stunning designs.

Stilo Isola in a Traditional / Contemporary Setting

The focus of today's Faber blog is a beautiful and very stylish kitchen design by Roost Interior Design of Ashville, North Carolina. Leslie Huntley of Roost Interior Design describes the kitchen design and how Faber fits into the kitchen:

"The homeowners (who are avid cooks) picked the Faber hood because it had the correct capacity to pair with their gas range. We all liked the look of the hood (we were mixing traditional and contemporary in the space so it fit right in). The homeowners do a lot of research on which appliances are the best for busy kitchens, so the fact that they chose a faber means a lot!"

We definitely agree with Leslie and the homeowners that the Stilo Isola matches up well in this transitional design with modern white, sleek cabinetry and the traditional wood flooring. The bold red island plus the stainless masterpiece above it stands out in this kitchen and gives the kitchen a focal point and a "pop". The Stilo Isola hood fan with 600 cfm Pro blower, advanced controls and baffle filters are able to stand up and take the heat from the pro gas stove below.  For more information on Faber hoods visit our website and visit Roost Interior Design to see more of Leslie's designs. Special thanks to Matt Rose Photography

Faber Cristal HC Slide Out hood in Designer Kitchen

This weeks designer spotlight features Kevin Karst Design from Toronto in this stunning kitchen featuring the Cristal HC Slide Out hood by Faber.

Cristal HC by Faber in a Design by Kevin Karst

This kitchen features high end stainless appliances and a Faber Cristal HC with an aluminum front installed. The designer comments on why he chose this hood by Faber:

“This hood subdued appearance preserves clean simple contemporary cabinet lines without compromising functionality.  I didn’t want the hood to visually compete with the beautiful fiddle-back figure of the English Figured Sycamore cabinet fronts.  I like the idea that it leaps into life only when needed.” - Kevin Karst

We couldn't have said it better! The Cristal HC is meant to integrate into your design and not become the focal point in the kitchen. When you are ready to cook simply pull the visor on the Cristal to reveal a second set of grease filters for a total of 4 filters and 19" of front to back coverage over the cooking surface. If the on/off switches on the lighting and motor are switched to "ON", then once the slider is pulled the range hood turns on and the lights come on. When you are finished cooking, simply slide the visor back in to shut the hood off.

The beauty of the Cristal HC is how versatile the product is. In the box comes a black, white and brushed aluminum (as seen in the photo above) front strip. The hood can also accept a wood cabinet front so the hood can completely integrate into the kitchen design. With top or direct rear venting, 500 cfm motor and dishwasher safe grease filters, this slide out has the right features for your kitchen.

For more information on this hood you can visit the product spec webpage

Kevin Karst Design can also be found on the Houzz design website

New Blue LED Electonic Control

Even the most basic canopy range hood by Faber now features an updated control set up that enhances functionality, performance and aesthetics across the board. The new Blue LED backlit controls as seen below feature: 3 speeds, a blue LED indicator light to show the current speed and lighting and a 10 minute intensive speed timer that turns the hood on for 10 minutes at the highest speed to quickly eliminate odors.

When compared to the manual slide control on previous models, the new control is a big upgrade while not increasing the hood price.

Finally perhaps the biggest upgrade to Faber's decorative collection canopy hoods are the performance and energy savings in the hoods with the new controls. A new and improved motor is now in the models using the Blue LED control hoods. The previous models used a 500 cfm, 3.7 amp motor. The new models use a 600 cfm motor using 3.2 amps. Gaining 100 cfm's and reducing energy consumption with a 10% lower amperage motor is a win-win situation.

Below is a video link discussing the new controls:

Perimetric Suction - what is it?

(Faber Cylindra hood with perimetric suction)

Faber has an advanced technology available on several high end hoods called perimetric suction. Some people will look at the technology on the surface and call it a gimmick, but it is far from a marketing hook, that I can guarantee.

By taking a look (see left) at the under-side of the Glass and Stainless steel slide out hood Velvet, the perimetric suction panel is comprised of a SS ventilation panel with narrow slots in the center and more slots around the perimeter. As air is drawn into the hood, the air has to speed up to enter the narrow slots on the hood. Just like when the windows in your car are almost closed, you hear a "woosh" of air as the air is coming in at a high rate of speed.

Additionally, as air is being drawn at a high rate of speed, a low pressure zone is created under the hood which acts as additional capture area since the air moves slower in the low pressure zone until it gets caught up in the faster high pressure zone above. This all creates energy savings by better efficiency since the motor doesn't have to work as hard as normal hoods to capture the same amount of contaminants.

In normal hoods (see photo left), the highest level of suction is concentrated in the center of the hood below the motor and fan blades / impellers. With a perimetric hood (see the next diagram on the left, bottom) , the suction power is spread out to the whole bottom of the hood even to the edges of the hood. The advantage of this system is the front far left and right burners would normally have lost fumes, steam, odors that would go around the hood. But instead these fumes will be caught into the hood since the suction power is no longer concentrated just under the motor.

As you can see in the diagram below, the fumes coming from the front left burner are almost 100% captured by the hood. This wouldn't normally happen with a traditional hood since you are drawing the front left burner contaminants to the center of the hood.

Finally, all the perimetric hoods from Faber contain a sound dampening panel behind the stainless steel panel. This reduces the air noise levels by at 25%.

To summarize the advantages of perimetric suction:

1) Improve efficiency and save energy by getting higher suction levels with lower speeds
2) Expand the suction area to the perimeter of the hood
3) Reduce air noise by 25% with sound dampening material
4) Since the panel is made of attractive stainless steel, looks more upscale than grease filters alone. The grease filters are hidden behind the perimetric panel.

The following products use perimetric suction: Matrix, Orrizonte, Cylindra, Cylindra Isola, Velvet

For more information on the hoods with perimetric suction visit our website, faberonline.com.

Cylindra hood by Faber - sleek, modern and functional

The new Cylindra wall hood by Faber shown in a modern kitchen to the left (with two hoods side by side), is a great addition to the Faber US family of designer hoods and will add flair and artistry to any kitchen. This new hood features a LED push button control panel with 4 speeds, an auto shut off timer, 2 level lighting and an intensive speed control which turns the hood on for 10 minutes at the maximum 600 cfm to clear out the kitchen of left over odors after you have finished cooking.

The Cylindra features a 36" tall, 15" wide stainless steel cylinder and perimetric suction. Perimetric suction is a ventilation technology available on several Faber hoods. With narrow slots on the bottom of the hood, air is forced thru the slots at a high rate of speed, improving efficiency and reducing air noise because of the insulated panels. Perimetric suction will save on energy costs since the hood requires lower speeds to extract the same amount of air versus other standard hoods. Also, an available accessory for the Cylindra is the glass canopy kit (hood shown with kit below) which features a flat 36" x 20" glass "canopy" that attaches to the bottom of the hood, adding capture area and flair.

For more information please visit our website- www.faberonline.com

The Cylindra is also available in an island version as well, the Cylindra Isola.
